Where we last left off, twilight continued, a constant reminder of the eclipse covering the sun Scomatch. However, hope lay within the Krelgar Keep’s crumbling walls. A possible entrance into the Underdark, and a chance to restore the Vidrefact with the Moonshard crystal.
Scomitch, channeling his inner warg, sent Fortissimo, his trusty (and expendable) familiar, down the spiral staircase into the keep’s depths.
The next level held a dungeon where the occupants checked in, but never checked out, as skeletal remains were housed in each of the cells. Then, Scomitch sent his little buddy down deeper. However, Fortissimo only saw the glimpse of a clawed hand before his spiritual tether snapped.
Undeterred, the party pressed on and investigated the current level’s doors with mixed results.
A room full of rats that made a beeline for the nearest cracks.
A library where all the books were soggy, but the party managed to salvage a few scrolls.
A suit of plate mail, occupied by an Ochre jelly, but once evicted from its home, left the armor surprisingly clean.
Four ogre skeletons, who apparently had somewhere very important to be, pushed past the party and marched up and out of the keep, heading northwest.
As the party checked for more magical hot dogs in the bushes, identifying the magic they found, and summoning a better, stronger, and faster familiar. The main event of the night began with a deafening roar.
Emerging from the Keep, they were met not with the familiar twilight but with a blizzard. The landscape was buried in a blanket of fresh snow.
Five ice mephits swarmed the party. A desperate battle ensued, but the mephits were defeated and only the prelude.
The earth trembled as another, even more earthshattering roar echoed through the area, triggering an avalanche that sent snow cascading down. Notoriously invisible in the snow, a colossal white dragon announced its presence and emerged. Its slumber had been disturbed, and now it was awake and wasn’t going to thank anyone for that!
Wynter and Nick Beardless, caught in the dragon’s icy breath, were instantly encased in shimmering prisons of ice.
Scomitch invoked the Figurine of Wondrous Nurgle, unleashing the power of Nurgle upon the dragon. A desperate struggle ensued, but after a grueling battle, the dragon fell, its icy reign of terror, about to just begin, ended.
Tracking the beast back to its lair, they found the remnants of the ogre skeletons, now scattered and broken. Beyond them lay the dragon’s hoard: glittering coins and a javelin crackling with lightning.
But the group's quest remained. The party returned to Krelgar Keep, their goal of finding the entrance to the Underdark and a chance to restore the sun.
