Episode - 30 - Mimics

Where we last left off, the party continued through the Underdark. A rhythmic thudding beneath your feet grew into a thunderous charge as two hulking minotaurs barreled down the corridor, their war cries echoing through the cavern. Four duergar fled before them, faces twisted in terror.  The party stood their ground and cut the beasts down.  However, from the shadows, more grey dwarves emerged, cursing you for spoiling their sport. They had been luring the minotaurs into a trap, hunting them for amusement, and your interference earned their scorn. With venomous words, they demanded you leave their halls.

Pressing onward, you reached a four-way passage. Scomitch’s familiar, Fortissimo, scouted ahead into a cavern where five chests lay waiting. Atop the central chest gleamed a Jeweled Crown, etched with the words “Make the Underdark Great Again.”

But before Fortissimo could draw closer, something unseen struck, snuffing out his life in an instant. Suspecting a trap, the party decided to explore further.  However, your suspicion was justified as the group was ambushed by four manticores lurking in the stalactites above. Their spikes rained down, but after a brutal clash, the party stood triumphant once more.

For your efforts, five treasure-filled chests waited to be opened. As the group approached, the wood grain rippled unnaturally, hinges twitching like living muscle. With a sickening snap, the chests split open, revealing rows of jagged teeth and lashing tongues, seeking fresh meat.

The mimics surge forward, gnashing and snapping, their sticky pseudopods reaching for you, as we join the battle already in progress…
