The party pressed deeper into the roper‑infested caves, still gathering the fungi, molds, and slimes Grimbles had hired them to collect. While Nick Beardless wandered off to capture new Pokémon, the rest of the group stepped straight into a roper kill zone, with piercers dropping from above and tendrils lashing through the air. They fought their way through the gauntlet and secured the slimes and fungi.
Only the molds remained.
At a thirty‑foot chasm, Ary used the Cloak of the Bat to glide across, securing rope with a piton like a Batman. In the dim light, he missed the subtle shift of stone that wasn’t stone at all. A roper stirred and lashed out. The dragonborn, Ahl d’Kukyz sprouted wings and flew to assist, and together the party subdued the creature. Behind it, they found the final patch of mold.
With all three samples collected, the party took a long rest and prepared to leave. Unsure whether the Tyrannosaurus Rex outside was still hunting, Ahl d’Kukyz turned invisible and scouted ahead.
The others emerged from the cave, but Ahl d’Kukyz was nowhere to be seen.
A tremor rolled through the basin. Pebbles skittered across the stone shelf. Dust sifted from the cave mouth. A vast shadow stretched across the clearing as something enormous rounded the cliffside.
A Tyrannosaurus Rex, twice the size of the ones they had seen before. Its hide was slate‑gray and scarred like ancient rock. Every step sent shockwaves through the earth. Its skull was long and ridged, its teeth curved and serrated like daggers.
It swept its gaze across the clearing, nostrils flaring as it spotted the triceratops carcass… and then the party.
It lowered its head.
It roared an earth‑shaking, ravine‑echoing bellow.
Grumpy had arrived.
